How to Remove an Irrelevant Airbnb Review

The short answer

An Airbnb review is removable as irrelevant when it's about things outside your control or not about the actual stay — the neighbourhood, weather, local traffic, Airbnb's own fees or service, or your politics or religion. Quote the off-topic sentence and cite the irrelevant-content ground.

What counts as an irrelevant review

Airbnb reviews are meant to describe the guest's actual stay at your listing. When a review instead complains about something you don't control, it can be removed as irrelevant content. Common examples:

  • The neighbourhood — noise from a nearby bar, a rough-feeling street, distance from attractions.
  • The weather during their trip.
  • Airbnb's own service or fees — the service fee, the app, the cancellation policy.
  • Local traffic, parking rules, or public transport.
  • Your politics, religion, or personal beliefs.
  • Something that happened entirely off your property and outside the booking.

What does NOT count as irrelevant

The line is control. If the complaint is about the stay itself — even harshly — it stays up:

  • "The apartment was noisy because the walls are thin" — that's your listing, not the neighbourhood.
  • "Check-in was confusing" or "it was smaller than the photos" — about the stay.
  • "Parking was hard" when you advertise parking — now it's about your amenity.
Mixed reviews are common: one irrelevant sentence buried in an otherwise on-topic review. Airbnb may decline to remove the whole thing. Isolate and quote the clearly off-topic part.

How to request removal

  1. 1Copy the exact sentence that is off-topic (about the area, weather, or Airbnb itself).
  2. 2Open the Airbnb Help Center review-removal flow.
  3. 3State that the review violates the Reviews Policy's relevance requirement because the content is about [the neighbourhood / weather / Airbnb's fees], not the guest's experience of your listing.
  4. 4Quote the sentence. Keep it factual and short — no venting.
  5. 5If declined, escalate and re-cite the irrelevant-content ground specifically.

Frequently asked questions

A guest gave me one star because of street noise. Can I remove it?

If the noise comes from outside your property — a bar, traffic, the neighbourhood — the comment is about something outside your control and may be removable as irrelevant. If the noise is from inside your building or thin walls in your unit, it's about the stay and stays up.

A guest complained about Airbnb's service fee in my review. Removable?

Yes, this is a strong irrelevant-content case. Airbnb's own fees and service are not part of your listing and not something you control, so a review focused on them can be removed. Quote the exact line and cite the relevance ground.

The review is half on-topic and half about the neighbourhood. What happens?

Airbnb may decline to remove a review that mixes relevant and irrelevant content. Focus your request on the clearly off-topic sentence and quote only that. If they won't remove it, a calm public response addressing future guests is your fallback.
